The Hunger Games series is making a big comeback right now, and Jennifer Lawrence is ready to go with it. Ten years ago, Lawrence played Katniss Everdeen, the main character, in all four movie versions of The Hunger Games. This weekend, she told an interviewer from Variety that she would be happy to play the part again. The question is whether Katniss will show up in any of the projects that are coming up.
When asked if she would play Katniss again, Lawrence said, “OOh my god – totally! If Katniss ever could come back into my life, 100 percent.” Looking away from the camera, Lawrence allegedly said, “My producing partner just clutched her heart.” Lawrence has changed a lot since she played the hero in the YA version of The Hunger Games, and she wouldn’t be the first child star to say she didn’t want to go back to that part of her career. But fans will probably be happy to hear that she is still ready to pick up the bow if asked.
The Hunger Games is a series of books by Suzanne Collins that have been turned into four movies. It tells a fairly short, complete story, with the last chapters showing Katniss’ peaceful life after the main story’s events. Fans aren’t likely to get a sequel unless Collins writes something new or gives her stamp of approval to the work of other writers.
The planned prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, is bringing back interest in the series. Collins wrote a prequel book with the same name in 2020, and work on the movie started soon after. The story takes place 64 years before the start of The Hunger Games, and it tells about the famed “Dark Days” that led to a failed rebellion in Panem. It’s about Coriolanus Snow when he was 18. This was long before he became the bad guy in the main story.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will be shown in cinemas for the first time on November 18, 2023. Since it is a stand-alone story, there are no current plans for more spinoffs. Still, studios never miss an opportunity to add to a series these days, and fans are always looking for more. If Katniss ever comes up in the story again, it’s good to know that Lawrence is willing to come back.
