On May 12, the new Netflix movie “The Mother” with Jennifer Lopez will be released. The singer and actress did an interview two days before the movie came out to talk about her part in the new thriller.

Lopez told Yahoo Entertainment, “I think it’s really about that I’m getting these opportunities to play these roles that I wasn’t even getting offered in my 20s and 30s.”

She added, “So it’s actually very empowering and when I get sent these scripts and I look at them… I just think that there’s a really beautiful story at the core of this and we looked at how big of an action movie it could be, depending on who we bought on as director, which was Niki.”

In the movie, she plays a rogue military-trained killer who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she had to give up (Lucy Paez) from two vicious crime lords.

She has been in action movies before, so she knows what to do. Lopez’s most notable film roles are in “Out of Sight” (1998) and “Enough” (2002), both of which received critical acclaim.
