JMU men’s tennis lost to Liberty 6-1 on the road Saturday, falling to 1-3 on the season, while the Flames improved to 3-1.

JMU sophomores Esteve Agusti and Aahthreya Mahesh notched the lone doubles victory for the Dukes, defeating Liberty freshman Romeo Hadzimehmedovic and senior Deji Thomas-Smith 6-2. The Agusti-Mahesh pair leads the Dukes with 11 doubles wins this season, but their effort against the Flames did not secure the doubles point.

JMU sophomore Julian Lozano took the Dukes’ lone point with a singles victory over Thomas-Smith. This was Lozano’s first win in dual competition this season.

Liberty senior Rafael Marques Da Silva won both matches he played in. The only games he lost were two in his second singles set against JMU redshirt junior Youssef Sadek.
The Dukes visit William & Mary on Saturday, with matches beginning at 10 a.m. The Flames travel to Princeton on Feb. 4 with matches also starting at 10 a.m.
