John A. “Jack” Oswald, 81, of Antis Township, died Wednesday afternoon at his home after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Andrew and Corenia Oswald. Jack was married to Alice F. Howard until her death on Nov. 14, 2016.
Surviving are his children: Lisa M. (Donald) Gallice of Antis Township, Lori A. (Bob) Perrin of Hollidaysburg and Andrew D. (Kim) of Pittsburgh; a grandson, David Gallice; three great-grandsons: Caydon, Jackson and Lucas Gallice; a brother, Richard Butterbaugh of Bellwood; and his beloved dog, Molly.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. Jack retired as a groundskeeper and maintenance worker at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
He was a member of Hillside Community Church, Bellwood.
His hobbies included hunting, farming and attending auctions.
Jack’s greatest joy was time spent with his children and grandchildren, who affectionately named him “Pappy Tractor.”
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, at the funeral home, with Pastor Randy Zitterbart officiating.
Interment with military honors will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
The family suggests that contributions in Jack’s memory be made to Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, Altoona, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
