Johnny Depp to Donate $1 Million from the Amber Heard Settlement to 5 Charities

Amber Heard apparently paid Johnny Depp the damages she owed him for their defamation trial in 2022, but he doesn’t plan to keep the money for himself. Fox News said on Tuesday that Depp had been paid the $1 million he was owed because of the lawsuit. He planned to split the money between five of his favorite causes. They are the Make-A-Film Foundation, the Painted Turtle, the Red Feather, the Tetiaroa Society, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance.

When Depp’s defamation case against Heard finally went to court last summer, the two were in the news for two months. He said that Heard had lied when she said that he had abused his wife and that her lie had hurt his chances of getting a job. The six-week trial was shown on TV, and in the end, the jury gave Depp $10.65 million in damages. In her countersuit, Heard also got $2 million in damages. Depp decided to end the case in December if Heard paid him $1 million. In the end, her insurance company paid that amount.

Even though the lawsuit has been solved, the case is still very controversial. Many people still support Heard, saying that she was slandered in the press and treated badly, on top of being abused by Depp, who has a long history of controversial behavior outside of his short marriage to Heard. On the other hand, Depp’s most loyal fans still yell at Heard whenever she’s in a movie or does anything else that gets her in the public eye.

Still, a year after the trial, it’s nice to have the money problem solved and know that the money is going to a good cause. Here are the five causes to which Depp has decided to give his winnings.

The Tetiaroa Society

The Tetiaroa Society is a group that works to protect and restore the natural ecosystems of island and coastal places. The group was started with the help of Marlon Brando’s estate after he died. He was a big inspiration for the group.

The Red Feather

The Red Feather is a charity that helps Native American nations, and tribes find homes and solve housing problems. They also help get the word out about living problems in the Native American community, especially on reservations. The group is working to find homes in Arizona for people from the Hopi Tribe and the Navajo Nation.

The Painted Turtle

The Painted Turtle is another charity that helps kids who have major health problems. It looks like a summer camp and has different programs that are all free for people who apply.

The Make-A-Film Foundation

Tamika Lamison, a director, came up with the idea for the Make-A-Film Foundation in 2006. It pairs kids and teens with medical conditions that could kill them with teams of writers, directors, and players to make short films. These films often star famous people. People have praised these projects for their creativity; some have even won awards. The group has already made more than 100 movies, and with Depp’s help, they may be able to make even more.

Amazonia Fund Alliance

Lastly, The Amazonia Fund Alliance is a group of non-profit organizations and businesses that are working to protect and repair the way of life of native people in the Amazon Rainforest.
