JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A Jackson Police officer continues to recover, days after being struck by a patient he was attempting to help at a South Jackson hospital.
On Monday, JPD Public Information Officer Tommie Brown said Cpl. Anthony Johnson was “doing better,” but still suffering from a headache.
Johnson was injured after 32-year-old Nicholas Glover struck him with a vehicle at Merit Health Central around 8:30 Friday morning.
Glover was a patient at the hospital, and Johnson was attempting to interact with him, JPD Chief Joseph Wade said at the time.
Johnson is a lead officer with JPD’s Crisis Intervention Team and is familiar with the patient.
The suspect fled the scene and was later picked up at Westover Street, and his vehicle was recovered at Highway 18 and Langley Street.
Johnson, meanwhile, was rushed into the hospital for treatment.
The officer suffered bruising and a cut on the head, but no broken bones. As of Monday, he was still dealing with a “major headache,” Brown said.
Glover is currently being held at the Raymond Detention Center, where he is charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of fleeing a law enforcement officer in a motor vehicle, and two counts of attempted aggravated assault on two other police officers.
He made his initial appearance on Friday, where he was given a $500,000 bond on each of the aggravated assault charges and a $100,000 bond on the fleeing charge.
