A Hamilton television station is bringing back the “glitz and glamour” of New Year’s Eve countdowns, along with three-time Juno Award-winning alternative band July Talk for the Countdown to 2024 show, with the festivities kicking off just 50 minutes before midnight Sunday at 11:10.

The event will be the first ever New Year’s Eve show for July Talk, though no tickets will be available for the public.

“It’s a private audience so unfortunately you can’t come,” the band teased on social media. “But if you live in Hamilton or Victoria you can watch it on the teleeeeee.”

US Girls, Ethiopian-Canadian R&B artist Moel and comedian Alistair Ogden will also be performing at the event, which will be filmed in front of a live audience at CHCH’s new studio on Innovation Drive in Flamborough and hosted by television personality Rick Campanelli, a Hamilton native and former Much Music VJ and co-host of ET Canada.

The biggest name on the bill is undoubtedly July Talk, a band formed in Toronto in 2012 and known for its entertaining on-stage interaction between co-vocalists Leah Fay Goldstein and Peter Dreimanis and for their high-energy live performances.

July Talk, which scored a #1 hit in 2016 for Push + Pull and eight top-10 songs overall, has released four studio albums and won Junos for the first three, with the current album, Remember Never Before, released earlier this year.

The Countdown special will be the second year for the show, following the success of last year’s debut production.
