G-Dragon, who used to be the leader and a part of the K-pop group BigBang, has been arrested by Korean police on drug abuse charges.
The rapper known as the “King of K-pop” was called by the cops on October 25.
A local newspaper, The Korea Herald, quoted the Incheon Metropolitan Police as saying that the 35-year-old singer-songwriter is being looked into for breaking the Narcotics Control Act.
At the same time, Soompi said that BigBang’s old company, YG Entertainment, had distanced itself from G-Dragon’s problems since the rapper was no longer signed with their agency.
In a formal statement, they said, “It is difficult to respond officially as he is not currently an artist under our company.”
The agency had already said that their deal with G-Dragon would not be renewed after June.
Another story from Naver News citing News1 said that the singer was arrested by South Korea’s Incheon Police Agency on charges of breaking the law on drug management without being detained.
It was said that his name came up in the drug case involving Parasite actor Lee Sun Kyun.
Police, on the other hand, said that their investigations into G-Dragon have nothing to do with their investigations into Lee Sun Kyun’s suspected drug use.
Not only that, but this is not the first time he has been accused of these things. In 2011, Kwon Ji-yong, better known as G-dragon, was involved in a drug scandal in which he admitted to using marijuana at a Japanese club.
When he said he didn’t know what he was given at the time, the police dropped the charges against him.
