Karustuti x Rohan Pariyar start their new journey together

Karustuti x Rohan Pariyar is a classic case of East meets West. Their maiden flagship store on 66 Shakespeare Sarani is a testament to shared dreams, love and passion for craftsmanship, and the intent to create novel silhouettes to enrich the fashion dialogue. With their flagship store, both Ankita Naskar of Karustuti, a homegrown sari brand that is championing fairtrade loom and handloom artisans, and Rohan Pariyar, who is known for bringing corsets back in the city’s fashionscape, start their new journey. While Karustuti brings their signature metallic handloom saris, along with many cotton and linen drapes, that are a testament of the labour of love and craftsmanship, Rohan, who honed his skills in structuring and tailoring at Milan Fashion Week, brings a range of corsets that redefine fashion.

Here are four exclusive looks, curated on model Diti Saha, before the store opens today.

This look is a classic case of a ‘twist in a desi tale’. In this lehenga-corset, Indigo raw silk has been meticulously hand-embroidered with silver zari, metallic sequins and glass, replicating a Florentine architectural pattern. Part of the IMedici collection, it took artisans more than 200 hours to complete it. Diti is styled here with statement sapphire earrings, ensuring the focus remains on the ensemble.
This fine muslin Jamdani by Karustuti is a testament to unmatched artistry, meticulously crafted from 180 handspun cotton threads, enhanced with luxurious resham and intricate needle weaving. The combination of black and silver exudes regal flair, which is paired with a must-have black corset from Rohan Pariyar’s repertoire.
A perfect cocktail gown in duchess satin, the skirt paired with a raw silk corset, embellished with pearl beads, metallic sequins and glass, oozes glamour in the right proportion. The silhouette itself is a bridge between modern and classical styling, bringing together timeless elegance and retro Hollywood chic in one piece. String of pearls around the neck and a dark lip shade keep the romanticism going.
A marvellous blend of grace and sophistication, the Ombre Tissue Metallic sari by Karustuti radiates aura. Crafted with care, this soft and breathable loom-woven material is designed to provide both comfort and style, making it the perfect choice for any occasion. Paired with a versatile brocade corset in ivory with detailing on the neckline, the look is curated for gatherings that ruminate on art and its accents.
The range of saris and their palette are crafted for the women of today.
“I have manifested this dream for nearly a decade now, like all fashion designers, to have a flagship store in a good location where people can come and see my creations. It’s finally coming true. It still feels like all those wishes I made when I worked at Milan Fashion Week and while working with the great Sharbari Datta are all being granted. My design philosophy and emotions align organically with Karustuti, hence I was convinced of this collaboration. I just hope this is a start to many more stores in the future,” said Rohan Pariyar.
Ankita Naskar, owner of Karustuti, said: “Rohan and I know each other through our work, and we know what kind of craft and textile go into our design philosophy. We have collaborated in the past in exhibitions and other forums and finally, we took a bold step to do something together at 66 Shakespeare Sarani. The concept is to blend Eastern and Western textiles, which is not just fresh but fashionable and potential to have a significant impact. We both are confident that we will bring something new.”
