As the search into whether former president Donald Trump misclassified a 2016 campaign hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels escalates, Kellyanne Conway met with New York prosecutors last week. Wednesday, New York Times reporters observed Trump’s campaign manager entering the Manhattan district attorney’s office during the final stages of the election. She is the most recent and most prominent witness to meet with prosecutors as District Attorney Alvin Bragg considers indicting Trump. Michael Cohen, Trump’s fixer, paid Daniels $130,000 days before the 2016 election.
As Trump reimbursed Cohen, the Trump Organization recorded the money as a legal expenditure. In New York, fabricating company documents is criminal, and if done to conceal a violation of election law, it might be prosecuted as a felony. Cohen stated in his 2020 autobiography that Conway communicated to him that Trump’s payment had been paid. The investigation, one of three ongoing probes that could lead to the former president’s indictment, is not yet complete. Trump has denied all allegations of impropriety and continues to deny having an affair with Daniels.
