Announcement

Join Us for the Kern River Valley Heritage Foundation Open House Recap!

The Kern River Valley Heritage Foundation extends a warm thank you to Deanne Schulman for her remarkable contributions to our recent Open House at Hanning Flat on Saturday, October 28th. The event was a tremendous success, highlighting the beauty and importance of our natural environment.

Event Highlights:

  • Guided Hikes and Bird Watching: Visitors enjoyed immersive experiences in nature, exploring the scenic trails and observing the rich birdlife of the area.
  • Insightful Discussion with Bird Expert John Schmitt: Attendees had the privilege of learning from renowned bird expert John Schmitt, focusing particularly on the intriguing burrowing owl.
  • Burrowing Owl Nest Installations: Our dedicated volunteers installed 15 artificial nests designed specifically for burrowing owls. These nests serve as crucial resting spots during their migratory journeys northward.

Foundation’s Vision

The Heritage Foundation leaders have a hopeful aspiration: that a pair of owls will choose to utilize one of these nests as their residence, contributing to the preservation of these magnificent creatures.
