‘Key West Colors’ highlights works of Rolston


The Key West Art & Historical Society will open an exhibit of Ray Rolston from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 30, with a reception at the Custom House, 281 Front St.

Rolston (Sept. 29, 1947 — April 30, 2019), affectionately known as “Papa Ray,” was a distinguished artist celebrated for his vibrant depictions of Key West. Born in British Guyana, a nation rich in dense rainforests and cascading waterfalls, Rolston’s early environment profoundly influenced his artistic vision. From a young age, he immersed himself in painting the lush landscapes surrounding his hometown.
