DURHAM – Coming off an undefeated week, Duke women’s tennis rookie Shavit Kimchi was voted ACC Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the league office.
Kimchi, a native of Sdey Hemed, Israel, opened her week with a pair of singles wins against NC Central and Charlotte before heading into a weekend contest with Illinois. The Blue Devils found themselves in a hole after dropping the doubles point, but in the end on court one, Kimchi clinched the 4-2 victory over the Illini.
The rookie registered a 3-0 ledger in singles and went 2-0 in doubles, while also clinching two matches for the Blue Devils on the week. As a team, Duke opened the season with a 4-0 record and is ranked No. 15 nationally.
Kimchi is the first freshman since Emma Jackson to earn ACC weekly honors. Jackson, a current junior, received ACC Freshman of the Week recognition on March 8, 2022.
Duke returns to the court on Friday, Jan. 26 as the Blue Devils face Princeton in the opening match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend inside Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
