Kirsten Dunst Talks Candidly About Her PTSD Battles Following the Civil War Shooting

Kirsten Dunst has discussed her battles with post-traumatic stress disorder after completing the Civil War play.

Dunst claimed in a new interview with Marie Claire that the next film’s action scenes “involved combat and car chases that shook me to my core”.

“I remember hearing them practice an explosion. We were in the hair and makeup trailer, which was very far away from set, and the whole trailer shook,” recalled the 41-year-old.

Dunst revealed that she suffered from PTSD “for about two weeks.”

“There’s so much gunfire, and then you look at the news and it’s a school shooting again,” the Jumanji actress said.

Dunst went on to say, “I remember coming home and eating lunch and I felt really empty.”

Dunst commented on the film, saying, “I think it’s a cautionary tale, a fable of what happens when people don’t communicate with each other and stop seeing each other as human beings.”

During the interview, Dunst also explored the opportunities available to women in the profession.

“There’s definitely less good roles for women my age,” she said.

She said, “When she read the script for Civil War, I thought, ‘I’ve never done anything like this.’”

Meanwhile, Dunst will next be seen in Civil War, which opens in theaters on April 12.
