LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Over the last couple of seasons Head Coach Micah Rasberry and his Lacassine Cardinals have been knocking on the door of a LHSAA State Championship, and this season sitting at (32-2) overall, he believes his team has all of the right characteristics to have a chance to finally get over the hump.
We didn’t really know what we had, these guys went to work and it kind of felt like we were underdogs going into the summer and we picked up from day one working real hard, working hard in the weight room going into the summer, we realized we had a group that was ready to get after it again,” said Coach Rasberry. They’re still hungry, after last year, we felt like we had some unfinished business and they’ve been attacking that every day.”
The Cardinals this year currently sit atop the Division B standings, and as they head into the end of the season, the players have a lot of confidence that they are going to be able to have postseason success.
“We think we’re the best team in the state, and that if we do what we do every night that we’ll win every night we step onto the floor,” said Forward Kane Broussard.
“Our main focus is to get into that championship game, but we just have to take every game one by one and just keep going to work at practice, doing everything we can to get better,” said Guard Jordan Duhe.
At its heart, the town of Lacassine is becoming a basketball town, and with the team believes it is the community support that will carry this team far through the tournament.
“One thing about this team and Lacassine in general is the people that have been assembled around us and the group of guys we have, the opportunity to coach these guys, the opportunity to coach with these assistant coaches that have been so good to me and to our boys, and then the opportunity to coach at a community that values basketball and really gets behind us,” said Rasberry. It’s indescribable, I just consider myself very blessed.”
