Kris Wu’s “not guilty” appeal has been officially dismissed almost a year after he was sentenced to 13 years in jail for raping multiple women and group licentiousness.
The Beijing No. 3 Intermediate People’s Court in China’s capital issued the final case verdict on Friday.
“Kris Wu violated the will of women and took advantage of the drunkenness of multiple victims to have sexual relations with them. His behavior constituted the crime of rape.”
In July 2021, a former member of the South Korean boy band EXO was arrested after an eighteen-year-old Chinese student accused him of inciting her in sex acts. Several more girls, some of whom were minors, were also listed as his victims.
The court noted that Wu had collected a multitude to participate in lewd actions, with him serving as ringleader, confirming the earlier verdict on the charge of collective licentiousness.
This case, notable for its harshness, depicts a rare occurrence in which a considerable sentence was imposed for a heinous crime. “If he was let out, I have not a single shred of doubt that he would repeat. Being kept away from women and young girls is what needed to happen,” argues one expert.
