MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — In partnership with the American Diabetes Association, Kroger hosted an event to help those with diabetes or prediabetes to enjoy healthy holiday meals without sacrificing taste.
The ‘Health for the Holidays | Food as Medicine’ show involved screenings and cooking demonstrations to help combat diabetes and spread awareness of healthier ways to make food this holiday season.
According to the association, more than 12.4% of adults in Georgia have been diagnosed with diabetes, and more than one third of adults have prediabetes.
Along with the cooking demonstrations, the show provided diabetes education and recipes with Kroger chefs.
“We want to make sure that everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy holiday cooking in a healthy way,” said Hazelon Smith, Spokesperson for Kroger.
Smith also says that their goal is to bring awareness to what diabetes is doing to our communities, and that Kroger is passionate about spreading healthy food security throughout our communities.
