Lady Gaga’s “Wednesday ”season 2 role revealed as Rosaline Rotwood

Lady Gaga showed viewers of Netflix’s Tudum live event a bloody good time in celebration of the Oscar winner’s upcoming role on the second season of Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday series, which we now know will be legendary Nevermore teacher Rosaline Rotwood.

Months after Entertainment Weekly was first to break news in November 2024 that Gaga will be on season 2 of the hit Addams Family offshoot in an undisclosed part, Netflix revealed on Saturday that she will appear as Rosaline Rotwood, who crosses paths with Ortega’s Wednesday.

It was also announced that her guest appearance will take place during Part 2, which hits the streamer on Sept. 3, following the Part 1 premiere on Aug. 6.

Gaga closed out Netflix’s livestream event, taking the stage from inside a coffin labeled, “Here Lies the Monster Queen” to perform a medley of tunes, including a mash-up of her new song “Zombieboy” with the Addams Family theme song, 2011’s “Bloody Mary,” and, finally, “Abracadabra,” also from her most recent album, Mayhem.

“Bloody Mary” has particular significance for the Netflix hit as a rendition of the song went viral on TikTok in 2022 alongside clips of Ortega’s character dancing in season 1. This caused the song — originally released on Gaga’s 2011 album Born This Way, but never released as an official single — to surge in popularity thanks toWednesday fans, hitting No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100, 11 years after its initial release.

The near-EGOT winner recreated the viral Wednesday dance while singing “Bloody Mary” at the Netflix event, before a group of goth schoolgirls shimmied to the Cramps’ 1981 song “Goo Goo Muck,” which was the original soundtrack to the season 1 scene.

Ortega joined Gaga for the “Abracadabra” performance, sitting at the head of a long banquet table for a spooky feast. The actress served to the camera as Gaga — fittingly clad as a lady in red — danced atop the table, before returning to her coffin — and taking Thing with her.

Speaking to EW earlier this year, Gaga remained tight-lipped on her Wednesday character, but said she enjoyed spending time with Ortega on set.

“I don’t want to give away anything about being part of the show,” Gaga told EW at the time, confirming for the first time following our initial report that she would appear on the show. “I want to keep it extra secret — but, I love Jenna, and I really had an amazing time!”

In a follow-up interview with EW, co-creator Miles Millar teased that season 2 has “some moments which are definitely horror movie-worthy.” He added, “We have that in season 1, but I think this season there are moments that are very intense, I’ll say.”

Gaga’s involvement came after Ortega previously said at the Golden Globes in January 2023 that she wanted the 39-year-old to join season 2 of the show, and even spoke about storyline she envisioned for Mother Monster.

“I’m sure Netflix would love that,” Ortega told Variety at the time. “I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way, so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other.”

Ortega first launched Wednesday to huge success in 2022, with the show following the titular character, Wednesday Addams, across her early years as a school student and a budding psychic.

Saturday’s Netflix event also included a sneak peek at the first six minutes of the season 2 premiere, including Haley Joel Osment as a serial killer who captures Wednesday.

Wednesday season 2 also stars Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Fred Armisen, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Isaac Ordonez, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo.

Part 1 of Wednesday season 2 premieres Aug. 6 on Netflix, followed by Gaga’s role in Part 2 on Sept. 3.
