The lakefront area of Lake Charles, Louisiana, became a hub of educational excitement today with the official opening of the Children’s Museum of Southwest Louisiana and the LDWF Nature and Science Center located at Port Wonder. According to an announcement from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the joint endeavor welcomes visitors from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, offering an immersive space to learn and interact with various displays, focused on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, as well as the region’s unique ecosystems and wildlife.
Positioned at 1011 North Lakeshore Drive, the newly inaugurated space houses the 15,000-square-foot Children’s Museum with hands-on STEAM exhibits and the 5,700-square-foot LDWF Nature and Science Center with its engaging features including freshwater and saltwater aquariums and touch tanks providing multi-sensory experiences for all ages, and while tickets are currently available for purchase at the door, there are plans to provide online ticketing options in the near future.
“We could not be more excited to officially welcome people of all ages to this one-of-a-kind experience in the city of Lake Charles – and just in time for Spring break,” LDWF Acting Secretary Tyler Bosworth expressed in a statement on the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries website, lauding the venue as a place where visitors can “explore, play, and learn about what makes Louisiana the Sportsman’s Paradise.”
