LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – The Brown Bag Food Program was held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church at the Outreach House.
Members of the program gave out bags full of food to those in need.
Food like pork chops, sausage, chicken, canned goods, and basics like rice and soup were offered.
Program members say they chose to hold the event in Central Lake Charles in particular due to the lack of grocery stores in the area.
“I think, you know, Jesus was pretty clear that we are supposed to feed the hungry, care for the sick, and visit those in prisons,” Dr. Reverend Mitzi George said. “We have all kinds of canned goods and dry, stapled goods, you know, like macaroni and cheese, but we also try to give out some good proteins every month. This was something that we are very passionate about.”
The Brown Bag Food Program is also one of the only organizations to use meat in their meals.
