LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Community members eager to make a change received valuable lessons on improving their diet and overall well-being at the Nutrition and Wellness Fair hosted by Laredo Public Health and Molina Healthcare.
The event, held at the auditorium as part of Nutrition Month, provided attendees with free health screenings, fitness sessions, and informational workshops.
Christina Duarte, Health Education and Promotion Manager for the Obesity Prevention Program, highlighted the urgent need for awareness, citing Laredo’s 42% adult obesity rate and 20% childhood obesity rate.
“We want to bring awareness to healthy eating habits and good nutrition. Our partner agencies are here to share resources and services,” Duarte explained.
Experts recommend simple lifestyle changes like cutting back on sugary drinks and increasing physical activity to improve health. If you missed the event, nutrition classes for both adults and children are available year-round.
