Last-minute goal sends Unatego girls past Delhi 2-1


The Unatego girls soccer team notched a 2-1 last-minute victory over Delhi on the road on Tuesday.

Harly Birdsall scored the game-winning goal for the Spartans with a minute left in regulation. Lizzie Craft also scored in the win.

Kelsea Small had Delhi’s lone goal of the game.

Unatego (6-0-1) will host Afton/Harpursville on Thursday while Delhi (6-2) will host Bainbridge-Guilford next Monday.

Milford 3, Cherry Valley-Springfield/Sharon Springs 0

Milford celebrated its Senior Night on Tuesday with a 3-0 win over Cherry Valley-Springfield/Sharon Springs.

Kara Mertz scored twice for the Wildcats, Lexi Sutphin had a goal and an assist and Zoie Stanley and Brooke Stanley had an assist apiece.

Bella Qua made five saves and Mackenzie Briggs had two stops to combine for the clean sheet for Milford. Ava Jump finished with two saves for CV-S/SS.

Milford (4-4) will visit Richfield Springs on Thursday while CV-S/SS (6-2) will also face Richfield Springs at home on Saturday.

Edmeston/Morris 7, Gilbertsville-Mount Upton 0

Edmeston/Morris scored six goals in the first half of a 7-0 victory over Gilbertsville-Mount Upton on Tuesday.

Hannah Wist led the attack with four goals while Sophie Robinson, Molly Rifanburg and Amira Ross each had goals as well.

Alyssa Sorochinsky and Alexis Davis each made seven saves for G-MU.

E/M (7-2-1) will host Milford on Saturday while G-MU (1-8) will be at the Chic Walshe Tournament in Davenport the same day.

Laurens 3, Worcester 0

Gillian Lebeau led Laurens to a 3-0 home win over Worcester on Tuesday.

Lebeau scored all three goals for the Leopards with Brooke Mann providing two assists and Libby Cox notching one of her own.

Ryleigh Williams made one save in the shutout while Worcester’s Melanie Filetti had 18 stops.

Laurens (3-4) will host Schenevus on Thursday while Worcester (0-8) will be at Franklin the same day.

Franklin 3, Susquehanna Valley 1

Franklin rebounded from an early deficit to defeat Susquehanna Valley 3-1 in a non-league game on Tuesday.

After the Sabers scored less than 90 seconds into play, Franklin tied things up when Irene Cox scored just two minutes later. The Purple Devils would take the lead in the second half on a pair of goals from Shannon Kingsbury.

Macey Beers finished with eight saves in the win.

Franklin (7-2) will host Worcester on Thursday.

Sidney 4, Greene 0

Sidney blanked Greene 4-0 in a Midstate Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday.

Addison Benedict scored twice for the Sabers, Alex Neubert and Chloie Taylor both scored goals and Neubert, Zoe Sullivan and Nayla Miley each had an assist.

Paige Duchnowski made three saves to earn the shutout.

Sidney (6-2) will host Susquehanna Valley on Saturday.

Delhi improved to 5-0 on the season Monday with a straight-sets victory over Oxford. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-19, 25-14, 26-24.

Leading Delhi in the win were Rebecca Verspoor (19 assists, 10 digs, 6 kills, 5 aces), Carly Guy (11 kills, 3 digs), Giorgia Dewitt (10 kills, 8 digs, 7 aces) and Peyton Maney (12 digs, 5 assists, 3 kills).
