Due to an appendix burst, Stephen Colbert was forced to cancel this week’s episodes of his titular late show.
On Monday, Nov. 27, the television celebrity revealed on social media that he is recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix.
“I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’” he asked on Facebook. “Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix.”
Colbert went on to thank his physicians for “their care,” as well as his wife Evie and children for “putting up with me.”
“Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas,” he joked at the end of his message.
According to the Mayo Clinic, an appendix burst could wind up spreading infection throughout the belly, posing a serious threat to life.
Colbert has a star-studded lineup of guests lined up for the week, including Jennifer Garner and Baz Luhrmann on Monday, and guitarist John Scofield on Tuesday. According to CBS, Sir Patrick Stewart and Jon Batiste will perform on Wednesday, followed by Barbra Streisand and Kelsey Grammer on Thursday.
