Leaders in Tech Say That Ai Could Pose ‘Serious Risks to Society’

MUSK WANTS AI TO STOP

Elon Musk wants to stop the race to be the best at making AI. Steve Wozniak, who helped start Apple, and other well-known computer scientists and tech leaders, like Musk, have signed a petition asking for a six-month break in the rollout of AI. More than 1,100 people signed the petition from the non-profit Future of Life Institute. It asks if “human-competitive intelligence can put society and humanity at great risk.”

INSTAGRAM COMPETITOR

Bytedance, the company that owns TikTok, has released an app that competes with Instagram in U.S. app stores. The app, called lemon8, broke iOS on Monday and is now number one on the Lifestyle chart. This comes at a time when some U.S. lawmakers are considering banning TikTok because they think Bytedance is giving the Chinese government information about U.S. users.

‘ETERNAL PINK’

In June, a flawless, rare pink diamond weighing 10.5 carats will be sold at auction. It is expected to sell for more than $35 million. The “eternal pink” gem will be sold at Sotheby’s in New York as part of its Magnificent Jewels Auction. Before it was made into jewelry, the stone weighed 23.7 carats when it was first found.
