Lee Sun-Kyun couldn’t stand having the public know about his legal problems.
The late Parasite actor, who was discovered dead from an apparent suicide on Wednesday, was the subject of an ongoing police investigation in South Korea for using illegal substances.
Sun-Kyun allegedly asked police not to expose to the world that he was under investigation for drug use just four days before his untimely death due to South Korea’s strict laws and culture, according to TMZ.
Sun-Kyun’s lawyer had requested that the last round of interrogation be closed to the press, according to police, who declined.
His lawyer also stated that up to the day of his death, the award-winning actor hoped that any future probe would be conducted in private since he felt burdened by media coverage and public scrutiny.
Though Incheon Metropolitan Police Chief Kim Hui-Jung expressed sincere grief for the actor’s death, he stuck behind their aggressive line of interrogation, to which Sun-Kyun supposedly agreed.
Despite the lack of official reports, Sun-Kyun’s death was ruled to be a suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.
