On Saturday, the City of Lexington hosted its annual indoor “Wimbledon Tennis Tournament’’ at the Lexington Field House.
Organized by city Parks and Recreation Manager Jake Saulsbury, the event drew in local participants and spectators, as well as people from outside the Dawson and Gosper County area.
The field house, normally used for indoor soccer, was transformed into an area for people to play tennis.
In the tradition of the real Wimbledon tournament, participants were encouraged to wear all-white attire. In addition, the turf was used to keep the main tradition of Wimbledon alive as being the only Grand Slam tournament in the world played on grass.
Open to players from sixth grade to adults, the tournament saw around 80 participants looking for victory across brackets divided by skill levels. Starting from the crack of dawn, the field house was filled with high energy as matches unfolded throughout the day.
