Halloween show

Recycled Youth, a local youth theater production group based in Garberville, will present a new original production for Halloween, “Nightmare at Scream Creek,” Friday and Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at  Redwood Playhouse, 286 Sprowl Creek Road.

Doors open a half hour before show time. Tickets are $15 to $20, sliding scale. There will also be a silent auction and raffles.

Church bazaar

The Assumption Parish Bazaar will take place Friday and Saturday evening at the Portuguese Hall, 355 Ocean Ave., Ferndale.

A spaghetti dinner will be available at 6 p.m., with games beginning at 7 p.m. There will be a silent auction, cake booth, fancy work, a 50/50 drawing and more.

The cost for the spaghetti dinner is $15 for those 11 and up and $11 for kids 10 and under.

Marsh tour

Friends of the Arcata Marsh will sponsor a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday.

Everyone will meet leader Paul Wilson at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute walk focusing on marsh plants and birds. The event takes place rain or shine. For more information, call 707-826-2359.

Tour the marsh

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m.

Bring binoculars and meet trip leader Keith Slauson at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata to enjoy easy-to-walk trails and the opportunity to view a diverse range of species. Trip-goers may see brown pelicans diving for fish, shorebird murmurations over the bay, the bill diversity of Pacific Coast shorebirds and migratory terrestrial species returning for the winter.

Artisans Faire

The Harvest Artisans Faire, hosted by Wild Coast Markets, will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Eureka Veterans Memorial Building, 1018 H St., Eureka.

There will be more than 30 vendors, food, music, a kids zone, raffle and libations. Admission is free.

Dance party

A dance with live music and a “great floor” takes place Mondays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Admission is $9.

Speakers contest

The annual “Student Speakers Contest” is a six-level speech contest open to all high school students. This year’s topic is “For A Better World, What Would You Change?”

Participants have the opportunity to win cash awards of up to $500 and scholarships totaling $21,000.

Contests will begin in February and be held through June 2024. The McKinleyville Lions Club level contest is slated for Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. at Dow’s Prairie Grange in McKinleyville.
