Mixer planned

An LGBTQ+ Professionals Networking Mixer is set for Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Phatsy Kline’s Parlor Lounge, 129 Second St., Eureka.

This gathering provides an open and welcoming environment for all people of the LGBTQ+ community as well as friends, allies and business professionals who value diversity and inclusivity.

Marsh tour

Friends of the Arcata Marsh will sponsor a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday.

Everyone will meet leader Elliott Dabill at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute walk focusing on marsh history, wastewater treatment, and/or ecology. This event is held rain or shine. For more information, call 707-826-2359.

Birding trip

The Redwood Region Audubon Society and trip leader Max Brodie will present a Southern Humboldt birding trip on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Everyone will meet at Tooby Park, one mile west of Garberville on Sprowl Creek Road. These monthly outings are along easily accessible walking paths and generally last two to three hours. Heavy rain cancels the event.

Views birds

The Redwood Region Audubon Society and trip leader Ken Burton will present a free birding trip to the McKinleyville portion of the Mad River floodplain on Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Participants will walk lower Fischer Avenue before venturing out into the fields bordering the riparian strip, and then will explore the new restoration area and see what’s on the pond.

The site holds potential for sparrows, blackbirds and potentially shorebirds and waterfowl. Be prepared for mud if there’s been rain.  If time permits, everyone will check out Silva Road, too.

Dance party

A dance featuring live music and a “great floor” takes place Mondays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Admission is $9.

Arts Alive!

Ron Honig and his melodious guitar will be the entertainment for Redwood Art Association during Arts Alive! on Nov 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. The Halloween exhibition will be showing until Nov. 10.

Pancakes here

The Freshwater Grange invites the community to a pancake breakfast Nov. 5 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the grange hall, 48 Grange Road, Freshwater.

The menu includes buttermilk and whole grain pancakes, ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, apple compote, orange juice, tea and French roast coffee. Top eggs with homemade salsa and cheese. The cost for breakfast is $10 for adults and $7 for children.
