WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – It’s forecast to be a rain-soaked weekend in Whatcom County, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a homebody. You can check out some theatre, art and live music. There’s also an event supporting a great cause and another chance to get pictures with Santa Claus. So, grab your rain gear and head out for some fun.
Many of us are familiar with the show Lost that aired on ABC from 2004 to 2010 and recall the impact it had on our collective psyche. Many of us were also disappointed by the show’s ending. Thankfully, the good folks at the Upfront Theatre have a fix. Totally Lost, an improv parody of the show, runs Friday, Dec. 13 and Friday, Dec. 20 at 9:30 p.m.
Each show will be a new adventure where audiences decide the fate of the characters and the scenarios they will face on that now-infamous island. Will they get off the island or get “totally lost”? If you want to take part in the adventure, and perhaps create a new, more satisfying ending to the show, get your tickets now at theupfront.com.
Are you looking for something else to do this weekend that’s sure to be equally as funny and absurd? Head down to the i.e. Gallery in Edison to check out Bugs in a Bowl, a posthumous exhibit of Bellingham artist Thomas Wood. The exhibit celebrates the wit, humanity and satire in Wood’s famous etchings.
While you’re down in Edison, you can grab food or a drink at The Old Edison, Terramar Brewstillery, The Edison Café, or any of the other amazing spots in the area. Bugs in a Bowl will continue through Jan. 26.
If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend that also supports a great cause, you’re in luck. The Jingle Bell Run is Saturday, Dec. 14 in Bellingham. It’s a fun way to be festive, get some exercise and raise money to cure arthritis. The fun kicks off at 8 a.m. at Bellingham High School. There will be a costume contest, a kids fun run, and a 5K run/walk through downtown, the Lettered Streets neighborhood and then back down Cornwall Avenue.
Registration for the Jingle Bell Run is open through Saturday. You can register here.
If you’re still looking to get pictures with Santa Claus, we’ve got you covered. Christmas at Bellewood Farms started on Dec. 7 and runs through next Saturday. So tomorrow, you can head up to Lynden from 12 to 4 p.m. for free photos, gift shopping, or just to sip on some warm spiked cider. Bellewood also has freshly cut Christmas trees for sale.
Our featured live show this week is at The Wild Buffalo. Dean Johnson will be in town on Saturday playing with Robert Sarazin Blake and Anna Arvan. This is a rare chance to get lost in Johnson’s folksy crooning because the legendary songwriter fills most of his time bartending at Al’s Tavern in Seattle.
The show starts at 8:30 p.m. and you can purchase tickets at wildbuffalo.net.
Enjoy your festive weekend!
