Lilo & Stitch reigns at the box office, topping Karate Kid: Legends’ debut. With Disney’s hit extending its momentum and Sony’s franchise revival opening below expectations, the weekend box office draws sharp comparisons. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning also holds firm in its second week.
Lilo & Stitch continues box office dominance in second weekend
Disney’s Lilo & Stitch stayed at number one in its second weekend with $63 million domestic earnings. The film dropped 57 percent from its $146 million debut. It has earned over $610 million globally. (via Deadline)
The film has now earned $280.1 million domestically after 10 days in theaters, contributing to Disney surpassing $1 billion in domestic grosses for the year. The film played in 4,410 theaters and pushed Disney to a 30 percent market share.

Internationally, Lilo & Stitch added another $330.7 million, bringing its worldwide total to $610.8 million. It continues to perform strongly in family markets and holds well against new competition.
Karate Kid: Legends disappointingly beaten by Mission: Impossible 8’s box office
Karate Kid: Legends opened with $21 million from 3,809 theaters, placing third behind Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which made $27.3 million in its second weekend. The film earned $7.7 million on Friday. Saturday dropped slightly to $7.3 million, followed by $6 million on Sunday. Excluding previews, Saturday rose 35 percent compared to Friday.
The film underperformed against early tracking that projected an opening in the $25 million to $30 million range. Contributing factors include franchise fatigue, a reliance on streaming through Cobra Kai, and overlapping demographics with Lilo & Stitch. Audience turnout skewed male at 60 percent, with a CinemaScore of A minus. The production budget is said to be $45 million.
Globally, Karate Kid: Legends stands at $47 million, with $26 million from international markets. Mission: Impossible 8 continues to perform strongly with $353.8 million, split between $122.6 million domestic and $231.2 million international.
