LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Richie Ross is a name that is well known at Lincoln High. The former Links star, UNK Football Hall of Famer, and NFL player is now the Head Coach for the Lincoln High Boy’s Basketball Team. Ross served as an assistant for 9 seasons and now enters the 2023-’24 season at the helm.
The Links return zero starters from a season ago but are optimistic for the upcoming season.
“We have excitement we have enthusiasm you know the boys are ready to go play, and excited about it, and you know enthusiasm goes a long way,” Richie Ross said.
For Ross, the opportunity is about having success on the court, but also, he says he wants to help his players develop into better men when they leave Lincoln High. The chance to be back at his alma mater doing what he loves is really special for Ross.
“It’s an opportunity that’s kind of just as good when I was in the NFL… its an opportunity I have been looking forward to,” Ross said.
The Links open the season Thursday Nov. 30, 2023, on the road versus Creighton Prep. The Links know they are a young and smaller sized squad; however, they have a confident mindset going into the season.
“We are not going to lay down we are going to make it fun. When players think they can win that makes the game totally different, versus if the players think they can’t win it’s a different energy different atmosphere,” A.J. Graham, Lincoln High senior guard, said.
