
TALLAHASSEE — Florida State men’s basketball opens their exhibition season on Sunday at 4 p.m. when they host Flagler at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla. Admission and parking are both free for the game. The game will not be broadcast. Noles247 will have updates throughout the game.
It is the annual Aubry Boyd game. The game against the Saints is the Aubry Boyd game powered by Rising Spear and marks the 23rdconsecutive year Florida State will help raise funds for Boyd who enjoyed a standout career for the Seminoles. Boyd was injured and paralyzed from the neck down during a pick-up football game in 1995. In the accident Boyd broke the fourth vertebrate in his neck, leaving him a paraplegic.
Boyd was a four year letter-winner for the Seminoles from 1988-91.
Boyd signed with the Seminoles as a highly touted recruit from Southwest High School in Macon, Ga. and made an immediate impact on the court for Florida State. From 1988-91, Boyd appeared in 116 games. He averaged 6.7 points per game during the 1990-91 season. Boyd’s senior year, he started 31 of 32 games and averaged 11.8 points per game as the Seminoles cruised to a 21-11 record, won the Metro Conference Championship, and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament by defeating Southern California.
FSU is entering Leonard Hamilton‘s 22nd season guiding the Seminoles.
The Seminoles return a handful of contributors from last season and plenty of fresh faces. The Seminoles are led by senior Darin Green Jr., who averaged a career-high 13.4 points scored and a team-leading 91 3-point field goals made last season. He led the team in total points scored, 3-point field goals made, free throw shooting percentage and totaled 30 steals. Also back in the Seminoles’ lineup are senior Cam’Ron Fletcher (10.8 ppg), who is returning from a knee injury, as well as sophomore Cameron Corhen (8.3 ppg and 3.3 rpg), junior Jalen Warley (6.8 ppg and 3.3 apg) and sophomore Baba Miller (4.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg). Some other returning contributors from last season include Chandler Jackson (3.6 ppg), Tom House (1.5 ppg), and De’Ante Green (1.5 ppg).
New faces will include Jaylan Gainey, who missed last season due to a preseason knee injury suffered following his transfer to FSU. New transfers for this season include Josh Nickelberry (from LaSalle), Jamir Watkins (from VCU), and Primo Spears (from Georgetown). They are joined by freshmen Taylor Bol Bowen and Waka Mbatch to round out the roster.
Following the game, fans will be able to join the team on the court for an autograph session with the Seminole student-athletes. Fans are encouraged to bring their own items for autographs. A list of items prohibited at the Tucker Center can be found here.
Florida State’s second exhibition game is Sunday November 5 at 4:00 p.m. at the Tucker Center. Admission and parking are free to that game, as well.
The Seminoles open their 2023-24 regular season as they play host to Kennesaw State on Friday November 10 at 6:00 p.m.
