Livingston County observes mental health awareness month

Livingston County has declared May as Mental Health Awareness Month to reduce barriers to treatment, lessen stigma, and make mental health resources readily available. The observance, which began in 1949, highlights the importance of mental well-being, with more than 1 in 5 American adults and youths experiencing mental health issues.

Livingston County Board Chair David LeFeber emphasized the county’s commitment to providing access to effective mental health services, encouraging residents to seek help. The county’s Mental Health Services, licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health, offer in-person and telemedicine options at clinics in Geneseo and Mount Morris.

Kristen Fisher, Director of Livingston County Community Services, highlighted the significance of prioritizing mental health. The county allocated $350,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act to support the Noyes Mental Health and Wellness Center in Avon and partnered with Credible Mind to connect residents with mental health resources.
