Local dentist, nurses receive honors, and other area health news


DENTIST HONORED: New Orleans dentist Jeffry Leeson has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Louisiana Dental Association. It is the highest honor bestowed by the LDA. Leeson earned his DDS degree at the LSU School of Dentistry and has practiced for more than 30 years. He is a member of the International College of Dentistry and has been a tripartite member of the LDA, the American Dental Association and the New Orleans Dental Association for 33 years. He was the longest-serving LDA Board member and has served as NODA president.

OCHSNER HEALTH: Ten Ochsner Health nurses have been named to Louisiana State Nursing Association’s “40 under 40” list, recognizing future leaders of nursing in Louisiana. They are Allison Beard, Ochsner School Nursing; Brittany Hyatt, St. Charles Parish Hospital; Christina Grishman, Ochsner Health; Kacey Christopher Wuertz, Ochsner Medical Center-New Orleans; Mimi Gray, Ochsner School Nursing; Rachael Sood, Ochsner Health Center-Metairie; and Crystal B. Risinger, Ochsner Medical Center-West Bank Campus. 

LOSS OF A SPOUSE SEMINAR: Christian Fellowship Church, 5049 Ehret Road in Marrero, will host a special grief seminar on April 11, 10 a.m. to noon. The event consists of a video presentation and group discussion. Fee of $7 covers the accompanying workbook. (504) 347-4875.

BREAST CANCER SUPPORT GROUP: A free support group for those recently diagnosed, receiving treatment, facing or recovering from surgery or are a survivor will be offered beginning April 18, 6 p.m., at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2525 Apollo Ave. in Harvey.
