BOWLING GREEN, KY. – At the Christ Episcopal Church, SOKY Recovery Plug coordinated a Friendsgiving on Black Friday for those who struggle with addiction.
News 40 paid a visit to the dinner, and while it was cold outside, the energy was very warm. The station spoke to three individuals in recovery who all had various things to say about the plight of addiction but also the same; “at some point, you just get tired of it”.
Though the journey of a substance addiction can vary from person to person, everyone at the station said something to the tune of “eventually you just get tired of the same thing, you feel stuck.” The dinner today was to promote the idea of receiving treatment while also just letting community members know their is someone who cares about them and are willing to help if asked.
Volunteers not only gave out food, they had clothes, medicine and harm reduction items as well like Narcan. Everything was free of charge thanks to local businesses that fed into the idea of assisting a certain population in the Bowling Green area.
