SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Shreve Memorial Library (SML) invites teens to celebrate Youth Art Month and explore the visual arts at various library branches throughout Caddo Parish.

According to a news release, Youth Art Month recognizes skills developed through visual arts, such as problem-solving, creativity, observation, and communication. 

SML will host various free programs, from art shows to special exhibits, fundraisers, and community activities for students in grades K – 12.

Programs include painting, mixed media, and hands-on craft workshops. They are free and open to the public, and supplies and materials are provided.

Teens and tweens (ages 12 – 18) can explore different art mediums, including acrylic paints, watercolors, glitter, painter’s tape, and more.

All craft supplies will be provided, and registration is not required to attend.

Art workshops for teens are scheduled throughout the month as follows:

Tuesday, March 12

• 2:00 p.m. – “Let’s Be Abstract” Water Coloring Experience at West Shreveport Branch, 4380 Pines Road.
• 4:30 p.m. – Dream Big Canvas at North Caddo Branch, 615 North Pine Street, Vivian.
• 4:30 p.m. – Youth Artists at Hollywood/Union Avenue Branch, 2105 Hollywood Avenue.

Saturday, March 16

• 1:00 p.m. – Basquiat Inspired Self-Portraits at West Shreveport Branch.
• 3:00 p.m. – Emoji Paint Party at David Raines Branch, 2855 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.

Monday, March 18

• 4:00 p.m. – Youth Art Program at Mooringsport Branch, 603 Latimer Street, Mooringsport.

Wednesday, March 20

• 3:00 p.m. – Easter Bunny Painting at Hosston Branch, 15478 U.S. Hwy 71, Hosston.
