Looking back at these GE gadgets


GE’s 1968 steerable medical magnet was a breakthrough for recovering swallowed metal objects from previously inaccessible regions of the stomach. Dr. Arthur Q. Penta, director of the department of broncho-esophagology at St. Clare’s and Ellis hospitals in Schenectady, demonstrates the device as Robert D. Quigley, president of Quigley-Rochester, Inc. which will manufacture and market the new medical tool, looks on. The device, developed at the General Electric Research and Development Center, was successfully tested by Dr. Penta.
