Memorial Day weekend is a time to remember fallen soldiers who have laid down their lives in service to the nation so all can enjoy the freedoms we have in the United States of America.

While we will forever celebrate and honor our fallen soldiers, this three-day holiday weekend will feature plenty of events to enjoy in Jackson and the surrounding areas.

Here are some of the area events:

Memorial Day weekend music

Jackson-based bands and entertainers are set to play at several different Jackson venues — Urban Foxes, Hal & Mal’s, Fondren Guitars on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for Memorial Day weekend.

Friday, May 24

Urban Foxes

The Belhaven coffeeshop, known for great pies, is hosting Couch Fest on Friday and Saturday, with doors opening at 6 p.m. Friday and bands starting at 7 p.m.

Hal & Mal’s

  • Who: Jesse Robinson (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), Chris Gill (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.)

Fondren Guitars

  • Who: Comedian Rita Brent (Doors open at 8 p.m.)
  • Location: 2771 Old Canton Road, Jackson

Brandon Amphitheater

Singer songwriter Cole Swindell will be performing at the Brandon Amphitheater with featured guest Dylan Scott and Jon Langston this Friday. Doors open at 6 p.m., with concert beginning at 7 p.m.

Saturday, May 25

Urban Foxes

Couch Fest continues on Day 2 with Surfwax headlining the event that runs from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

  • Who: Surfwax, Nighdrator, Sugarplums, No Culture, Sieze and Desist, Oversight, Death Throes from a Star, Defluo Cervus, Don Quixote’s Horse, Satan and the Sunbeams

Hal & Mal’s

  • Who: The Cat Daddies (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.)
  • Location: 200 Commerce St., Jackson

Sunday, May 26

Hal & Mal’s

  • Who: Beach Novels, Letrainiump, Rose Haven Motor Hotel (7:30 to 10 p.m.)
  • Location: 200 Commerce St., Jackson

PBS National Memorial Day Concert

The 35th annual National Memorial Day Concert will air at 7 p.m. on PBS according to PBS.org and stream on PBS.org and YouTube and will be hosted by Tony Award-winner Joe Mantegna and Emmy Award-winner Gary Sinise, who are both actors. The event is dedicated to veterans. The concert will remember fallen heroes and the Gold Star families.

6th Annual Vettes for Vets Memorial Day Car-show

The Mississippi Corvette Classic

S.H.I.E.L.D. Corvette Club will be hosting its 6th annual “Vettes for Vets” car-show to help collect funds to support and honor local Mississippi veterans for Memorial Day. There will be prizes, giveaways and musical entertainment so come out and showcase your vehicle while having a fun-filled day.

  • When: Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26
  • Where: Outlets of Mississippi, 200 Bass Pro Drive, Pearl 
  • Admission: Free
  • Time: Saturday at 8 a.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. To participate (cars, trucks and bikes welcome) sign up here or contact SHIELD Corvette Club.

Memorial Day Mississippi outlet mall sale 

Holiday deals on shopping are common throughout the area. One area the public can enjoy deals, sales and savings from their favorite store brands is at the Mississippi outlet mall located in Pearl.
