LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A festival that brings people and mental health resources together was held for the third year in downtown Louisville on Sunday.
MindFEST was hosted at Roots 101 African American History Museum, offering mental health discussion workshops, health and wellness vendors, yoga, art, entertainment and food. The event culminated in a discussion by panelists who are all military veterans.
“It’s a wide array of different health and wellness resources from all over the city,” said Lauren Muir, director of sponsorship for MindFEST and co-owner Martin and Muir Counseling.
There were dozens of mental health and wellness vendors and a variety of classes offered throughout the day. The festival was designed to break down stigmas and encourage understanding.
“We wanted a place to make mental health as normal as physical health,” Muir said. “It’s something that is part of our every day life, we want to make sure people are addressing their mental health needs so they can be the best they can be.”
According to the 2023 State of Mental Health in America conducted by Mental Health America, Kentucky ranks 11th in the nation for mental health and access to care. This includes being ranked No.1 for adult mental health, and 31st for youth mental health.
