Loving literature with Dr. Seuss

In the whimsical world of children’s literature, Dr. Seuss (the pen name of Theodor Seuss Geisel), transformed the landscape of early reading with playful rhymes and innovative storytelling techniques. Decades following the publication of his first book, “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,” his influence is still felt deep in the hearts of readers round the world, not only through his entertaining stories but also his teaching valuable lessons about friendship and the beauty of being different. From the towering truffula trees of “The Lorax ” to the busy streets of “Who-ville,” Dr. Seuss imagined a world where every child can see themselves as the hero of their own story.

The Town of Taos begins celebrating Dr. Seuss’s work in January, with our community leaders reading passages from their favorite books on video posted to our website. The celebration culminates in a free birthday party for children of all ages on Saturday, March 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at our Youth and Family Center at 407 Paseo del Canon East. Children attending the party will receive a book and reading backpack. Special guests include: the Cat in the Hat, the Grinch, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Blue Bear from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico, and Thing 1 and Thing 2.  Dress up as your favorite Dr. Seuss character. There is a prize for the first 10 children.
