Venue moves from Manitou, but retains eclectic mix of music, comedy and more
By Brianna Corrine
Lulu’s Downtown in Colorado Springs is a cozy live music venue that also puts on comedy shows and lends its stage to other performing arts gigs.
Formerly known as Lulu’s Downstairs when it was located in Manitou Springs, Lulu’s Downtown is an intimate destination and an eclectic place to discover something or someone new.
Lulu’s, 32 South Tejon St., also offers a lovely little coffee shop from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Upcoming shows to look forward to and snag tickets for are varied and vast. Between the local artists and those from elsewhere that often grace the space, audiophiles and casual fans of music are sure to be pleased not only by the ambiance of the venue but also by the music. Two Denver bands are scheduled to play soon – Jesus Christ Taxi Driver on Nov. 27, and The Motet on Dec. 6. Additionally, Bandwagon Presents brings a Battle of The Bands to Lulu’s on Saturday, Nov. 23. For information on the show schedule and tickets to all the events, visit the website.
While Lulu’s puts on the standard array of events you might expect, they also throw the occasional Night Market Party, a free event for all ages. The function is intended to be a place where artists and patrons can come and get inspired and discover something they never knew they needed. One artisan, who produces anxiety rings with interchangeable pendants, mentioned how she loved the chance to be around so many creatives and see all the unique work.
The Night Market Parties feature a unique spread of vendors selling an everchanging variety of goods from jewelry to prints and delectable cocktails – all backed by a booming backdrop of DJ sets. One of the next parties will unfold Nov. 30.
Regardless of why you visit this funky venue, whether it is to enjoy some tunes at night or to get some work done during the day, you can enhance your experience with a carefully crafted beverage, such as a nice matcha or a boozy espresso martini.
Lulu’s Downtown offers a perfectly curated venue that is worth the trip to Colorado Springs if you haven’t been.
