Whether you’re starry-eyed in love or just looking for a celestial adventure, prepare for a Valentine’s Day journey that’s light-years beyond usual hearts and roses. Sokaris Studio and the 124 Street & Area Business Association are giving the day an interstellar twist with To The Moon and Back — an immersive and interactive art experience.

According to Kam Kaminski, creative production manager at Sokaris Studio, the art experience is inspired by the romantic phrase — “I love you to the moon and back.”

The Sokaris Studio team, which consists of talent from both Edmonton and Shanghai, China, created this 11-installation experience. It’s all illuminated by astronomy-themed digital projections, artistic and LED lighting, including a purple-hued moon that incorporates both lasers and projections — a fusion that’s “rarely done.”

“People are doing these [laser and projection combinations] on big stages now, and we’re really happy that we figured out how to bring this experience here,” Kaminski says.

Another one of the installations features a state-of-the-art sound system provided by Audio Ark, local Edmonton speaker producer. As you interact with the installation (which reveals love-themed hieroglyphics), you’ll also “have a soundscape moving with your body, too.”

Cosmic Community

Though it may feel like you’ve been plucked from Earth and launched into the cosmos, this experience is grounded on 124th Street at the Peter Robertson Gallery.

Your admission not only grants access to this art experience, but also gives you a voucher incentive to support local businesses in the area. According to Luwam Kiflemariam, executive director of the 124th Street & Area Business Association, 33 businesses are participating in the initiative.

“The $5 voucher serves as a great incentive to encourage people to explore and support local businesses. It not only rewards attendees for attending the event, but also drives foot traffic to businesses throughout the 124th Street area,” Kiflemariam says.
