Macao Arts & Culture Festival: China & Portuguese Speaking Countries


The 6th “Encounter in Macao—Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries” will take place from October to December this year. It will feature 70 events and welcome nearly 700 artists and performers.

Lusofonia Festival: Celebrating the Culture of Goa, Daman, and Diu

2024 GEG Lusofonia Festival

This year’s Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries will once again run alongside the “2024 GEG Lusofonia Festival”, which, for the first time, will span two weekends.

The festival will highlight the culture of Goa, Daman, and Diu, offering handicrafts, specialties, and performances by 10 groups from Portuguese-speaking countries and 35 local Portuguese-speaking artists.

The Lusofonia Festival brings together music, dance, games, gastronomy, and diverse cultures from Portuguese-speaking countries and regions, allowing the public to experience their vibrant traditions.

Cultural exhibitors from Portuguese-speaking communities in Macao—namely Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Goa, Daman and Diu, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor, and the Macanese—will showcase music, arts and crafts, traditional costumes, gastronomy, and tourism information. This will introduce the public to these countries and regions’ rich festive traditions and diverse folk customs.

GEG Traditional Music and Dance Performance in the Community

Additionally, the “GEG Traditional Music and Dance Performance in the Community” will present lively performances by the “Guangdong Zhongshan Torch Singing and Dance Troupe” from Mainland China, alongside eight art troupes from Portuguese-speaking countries and regions, including Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor, and Goa, Daman and Diu. These performances will take place in various districts during the festival, highlighting the vibrant performing arts of both China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

GEG Traditional Music and Dance Performance in the Community

Chinese and Portuguese Picture Book Fair

Themed “Forest Carnival,” the Chinese and Portuguese Picture Book Fair will run for ten days, featuring over 500 picture books and children’s books primarily in Chinese and Portuguese. Admission is free.

Throughout the fair, various outreach activities, including “Picture Books Reading by 100 People,” lectures, and workshops, will be held.

In addition to buying books, visitors can participate in interactive activities to explore the creative process and stories behind the books, deepening their appreciation and interest in the art of picture books.

Annual art exhibition: “Memories‧Legacies‧Mutations”

Annual Arts Exhibition between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries

The Cultural Affairs Bureau and Wynn Resorts (Macau) S.A. are jointly organizing the Annual Arts Exhibition between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries for the first time.

The exhibition, themed “Memories‧Legacies‧Mutations”, will showcase 136 artworks by 23 artists from Mainland China, Macao, Portugal, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, and East Timor. The works span various media, including painting, interactive video, and multimedia installations.

Public artworks will be displayed at Rua da Felicidade starting in January next year.
