MAC’s Romero Jennings Creates ’90s Wabi Sabi Glam for Kim Shui SS25

This fashion week, New York designer Kim Shui’s collection was inspired by the Japanese art of wabi sabi and kentsugi, a craft where broken items are put back together and repaired, making them appear more beautiful. Partnering with MAC Cosmetics and longtime MAC collaborator Romero Jennings, the duo crafted a look that felt smokey, undone and yet, extremely pulled together.

For skin, the brand choose Kate Somerville to prep the models, choosing to focus on moisturizing the body and face with a head to toe glow. Here, lead esthetitcan Susan Mastaj used the Exfoliating Body Scrub and new Goat Milk Cleanser + Moisturizer all over the body.

Jennings pulled out a classic MAC makeup vibe to pair with the clothing, a focus on a ’90s nude look, with colors like sheer brown and butterscotch.

First, Jennings prepped the skin with MAC’s Hyper Real Serumizer before applying the Studio Radiance Serum Powered Foundation and Studio Radiance Concealer. Depending on the model’s skin tone, he then used Blush Please or Big Diva Energy Glow Play Blush on the cheeks. For the eyes, the legendary artist applied Pro Longwear Paint pot in Contemplative State and It’s Fabstract Paintpot onto the eyelids before placing the Smolder Eye Kohl Pencil onto the waterline.

Next, MACStack Waterproof Mascara was applied onto the lashes with the Whisper of Gilt Extra Dimension Highlighter on the high points of the cheekbones. For the lips, Jennings utilized a trio of lip liners — Stone, Chestnut or Cork Lip Pencil before finishing with the MACximal Lipstick in Honey Love or Caviar for deep-toned models.
