Maine women’s basketball coach Amy Vachon explains contract extension decision


ORONO, Maine (WABI) – Amy Vachon’s contract extension means that she will continue to build a program in the place that she calls home.

Vachon will earn $210,000 in 2024-25 with an annual increase of $8,000 through 2028

She’s been the team’s official head coach since 2018 after serving as the interim head coach.

In her tenure, she’s led the Black Bears to four America East regular season championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances.

Vachon noted that she’s happy, and a piece of advice she goes by is to not mess with happy.

Here’s what she had to say about her decision to agree to an extension.

“I love Maine. I love the University, you know, our program and you know, it’s just home and I really the people. I work with my staff, the players, our administration. Everything here is just really good, and so I I’m excited to be able to stay here a little bit longer,” said Vachon.

The contract extension runs through the end of 2028.
