Maintaining nutrition during Halloween


With Halloween approaching quickly parents may not know how to regulate their children’s sugar intake on the well-known holiday.

Resident sports dietitian for Townson University, Kathyrn Violette, joins the morning show to share her tips and opinions on how to keep children’s diet balanced during Halloween.

First, Violette explains fueling your children prior to letting them trick or treat is an excellent way to keep to them full and energized throughout the day. Providing a meal that is high in protein, fiber, and healthy fats the night before or morning of is ideal.

When it comes to the candy delegation Violette said its crucial for children to create healthy long-term relationships with food and the best way to do that is to have a guiding hand but let the children ultimately be the drivers.

Violette goes on to say she thinks a lot of kids will surprise their parents by not over doing it, but if they do calmly approach the situation and using it as a nonjudgmental point of education is really important because that can teach children to correct the behavior of over-eating and also take a lot of negative emotion and shame out of over-eating.
