Majestics Car Show revs up this weekend’s five things to do in Regina (April 25-27)


From car shows and live concerts to fundraisers and collectors’ shows, there are plenty of special events on tap.

The weather isn’t the only reason it’s shaping up to be a majestic spring weekend in the Queen City.

The Majestics Car Show continues its long tradition on Saturday (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) and Sunday (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) at REAL District’s International Trade Centre, adding some legit horsepower to the latest events on the local entertainment calendar.

The annual two-day showcase is still going strong after 56 years under the banner of Regina’s Majestics Car Club.

In addition to a wide range of modern vehicles, classics and hot rods, the show also features vendors with a selection of products for local enthusiasts.

In conjunction with Majestics, REAL District also welcomes the Regina Antique Auto Association’s 51st annual swap meet on Saturday (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) inside Banner Hall.

It features new and used toys as well as parts, literature, supplies and services for special-interest vehicles, antiques, sports cars, street rods, trucks, tractors and motorcycles.

2. Prism rocks Regina

Legendary Canadian band Prism is scheduled to appear Friday night at the Casino Regina Show Lounge.

The Vancouver-based rockers, formed in 1977, won a Juno award in 1981 for group of the year and is still going strong with a new-look lineup under frontman Allen Harlow, who originally joined as a bassist in 1978.

Prism is known for classic songs like Spaceship Superstar, Take Me to the Kaptin, Flyin’, Armageddon, Take Me Away, Young & Restless, Night to Remember, and No. 1 U.S. hit Don’t Let Him Know.

“Prism is a must-see live attraction,” says an online preview. “The band rocks out the hits more energetically than ever, thrilling audiences nationwide.”

3. I Love Artesian

The Artesian is hosting a major fundraiser on Saturday night to support the venerable arts and entertainment venue.

The annual event is described in an online preview as “a variety show evening where great local artists showcase their talent and show love for the Artesian.”

This year’s fundraiser — hosted by comedy duo Cole Nicolson and David Carnegie — includes live music by Wolf Willow along with special guests The North Sound. There’s also poetry by Tai Reign and the debut of In Good Company Improv, along with DJ sets from Vinyl Hang.

4. Belle Plaine in concert

Saskatchewan’s own Melanie Berglund — better known by her stage name, Belle Plaine — is set to perform on Friday night at Darke Hall.

The singer-songwriter “has been a fixture of the Western Canadian music scene for 15 years,” says the venue’s website. “Her music blends country and folk traditions with a jazz and classical education. Belle has toured internationally, performed her original works live with symphonic arrangements and can still hold it down in honkytonks.”

5. Shows, sales and fundraisers

— The local chapter of Grandmothers 4 Grandmothers is holding a vintage jewelry and accessory sale on Saturday (10:30 a.m.-4 p.m.) at The Spot in Southland Mall. All proceeds go to the Toronto-based Stephen Lewis Foundation.

— Regina Railfest‘s “largest ever” model train show runs Saturday (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) and Sunday (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) at the Callie Curling Club. It features over 25,000-square feet of model railroad layouts, displays, exhibits, and vendors, including Lego displays.

— The Regina Coin Club is hosting its spring coin and stamp sale on Saturday (10 a.m.-5 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) at the Italian Club. It features a wide selection of coins, bank notes, stamps, bullion, books, jewelry, special displays, and more.
