MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – Mammoth Cave National Park is now under a burn restriction.
A release by the park Thursday morning says all open fires are banned immediately due to elevated fire danger.
This includes campfires in the park’s three front country campgrounds, as well as all back-country campsites and picnic areas.
If you must use a gas camp stove, the parks asks to watch it closely during use.
The fire restriction will be in place until danger levels lessen and fire weather conditions improve. The extended weather conditions and restriction will be evaluated daily.
This restriction placed by the park corresponds with an executive order issued by Edmonson County on Wednesday that declared a ban on all open burning within the county.
Visitors violating the fire ban within the park may be subject to citation under the authority of Title 36 Code of Federal Regulations 1.5(f). Visitors are also reminded to put out all cigarettes, cigars and pipes and to throw them away in appropriate containers.
