TRUMBULL, CT — A Waterbury man accused of stealing a purse from a car parked outside a Trumbull business earlier this year was arrested Thursday, according to police.
In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Weir said officers were called to investigate a purse theft from a car parked outside a Main Street business on Jan. 5 around 6:30 p.m.
According to Weir, the owner returned to the car from a nearby business and found the vehicle’s door was ajar and a purse had been stolen.

During their investigation, police reviewed video surveillance footage that showed the driver of a white Mercedes park next to the owner’s car, exit the Mercedes, steal a purse from the unlocked vehicle and leave the area, according to Weir.
Detectives later learned the Mercedes had been privately rented by Samuel Lopez, 26, of Waterbury at the time of the theft, Weir said.

Trumbull officers arrested Lopez, who was in the custody of the Department of Corrections for unrelated crimes, on a warrant Thursday, Weir said.
Lopez was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny. He was held on a $25,000 bond and later arraigned in court, according to Weir.
