SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A jury convicted a 28-year-old man of breaking into six vehicles in a single night in San Francisco’s Excelsior and Crocker Amazon neighborhoods, prosecutors said Friday.
Victor Matute-Casco was found guilty of second-degree burglary, attempted second-degree burglary, possession of stolen property and resisting a peace officer.
Matute-Casco broke into the six vehicles in the early hours of Sept. 8, and attempted to enter two others before he was discovered hiding under a parked vehicle near Cordova Street and Seville Street, prosecutors said.

He first caught the attention of police when he was seen casing a parked vehicle with a flashlight on Naples Street near Athens Street. Forensic evidence and his distinctive clothing tied him to the various crime scenes, according to the district attorney’s office.
Matute-Casco, who is in custody, faces more than eight years in state prison.

“Auto burglary continues to be a top concern for residents and visitors of our city, and I will continue to work closely with law enforcement to ensure that prolific auto burglars face consequences,” San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said in a statement.
